Nez Perce Tribe to Sign Title IV-E Agreement with State of Idaho

After years of meeting and negotiating, the State of Idaho (State) and the Nez Perce Tribe
(Tribe), will officially sign an agreement granting the Tribe eligibility under Title IV-E of the
Social Security Act. The agreement will integrate systems between the Tribe and the Idaho
Department of Health and Welfare.

Title IV-E of the Social Security Act provides funds for states and tribes to provide foster care,
transitional independent living programs for children, guardianship assistance, and adoption
assistance for children with special needs. Though the State and Tribe will maintain separate
sovereigns and respect each other’s laws; this agreement sets forth the procedures and protocols
for the Tribe to be reimbursed by the federal government for the provision of child welfare
services using the systems already established by the State of Idaho.

The signing event will commence on Friday, April 12, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. in McCall, Idaho. At
the Tribe’s Fisheries complex (14054 Burr Road), State and Tribe representatives will sign the
agreement with lunch to follow. Media is welcome and invited to attend.
