Media Release from Nez Perce Tribal Police Department – Adverse Drug Reaction

On November 20, 2024, Nez Perce Tribal Police responded to the report of a suspected adverse drug reaction involving an adult staff member at the Lapwai Elementary School (170 Agency Rd, Lapwai, Idaho). The staff member located a gelatin pill capsule on the sidewalk in a common area of an adjacent facility and retrieved it for disposal. The staff member experienced symptoms consistent with a drug overdose following the topical exposure to the pill capsule. Lapwai Elementary School staff administered counteractive measures in accordance with their training, the Lewiston Fire Department was notified, and paramedics were dispatched. The involved staff member was treated by paramedics at the scene and subsequently released after exhibiting no further medical complications.

The discarded pill capsule was tested using testing kits that can detect fentanyl and other schedule 1 narcotics, even if masking agents are used, and was determined to be non-narcotic in nature, seemingly a prescription diet pill based on the Prescription Directory Resource (PDR). The Nez Perce Tribal Police Department canvassed the surrounding areas and did not find additional substances.

The Nez Perce Tribal Police appreciates the vigilance of the community and the actions of the administrative staff of the Lapwai Elementary School in response to this incident.
