ABOUT
The Redheart Memorial commemorates a painful chapter in Nez Perce history. In 1877, Chief Reheart’s band, consisting of 33 men, women, and children was unjustly imprisoned at Fort Vancouver for eight months. During their captivity, they endured harsh conditions, and tragically, an infant in the group passed away.
Today, this annual ceremony serves as a time for remembrance, cultural preservation, and healing. The gathering includes traditional singing, drumming, and honoring of veterans, providing an opportunity to reflect on the resilience and strength of the Nez Perce people.
SPECIAL THANKS
The Nez Perce Tribe deeply appreciates the dear and loving friendship with the City of Vancouver, which has played an important role in supporting and hosting this event in partnership with the Tribe.
