Safety Precaution Is Cause for School Lockdown

Lapwai, ID— Information that indicated a weapon could be on campus, prompted a 2 ½ hour lockdown for all students and teachers at the Lapwai Middle/High School today, November 29, 2018.  An individual heard mention of a weapon possibly being in the possession of a student on campus.

At approximately 9:00 a.m., the Nez Perce Tribal Police (NPTP) immediately responded to a call. The Nez Perce County Sherriff’s Office was also contacted, and arrived on scene.  During the lockdown, NPTP and Nez Perce County officers secured the campus and conducted a thorough search of the entire Lapwai Middle/High School premises. When no weapons were found, and with no individuals harmed, it was concluded safe to resume normal operations around 11:30 a.m.

“The lockdown this morning was for confidentiality, and as a safety precaution. There was no immediate danger. Thank you Nez Perce Tribal Police, Nez Perce County Sherriff’s Office, and Lapwai Middle-High School staff for your support in the investigation. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions at (208) 843-2622 ext. 202,” commented David Aiken, Lapwai School District Superintendent.
