Nez Perce Tribal Executive Committee
October 25, 2016
Dear Tribal Member,
On or about November 18, 2016, the Nez Perce Tribe will begin distributing the proceeds from the class action lawsuit known as
Ramah to all enrolled members of the Nez Perce Tribe. The Nez Perce Tribe received approximately $4.7 million dollars in the settlement as compensation for the underpayment of contract support costs to the Tribe by the Bureau of Indian Affairs for calendar years 1994-2013. The individual distributions will be approximately $1,340.00 per person and are considered taxable income for federal tax purposes.
The distributions will be made to the addresses or bank accounts that you have on file with the Nez Perce Tribe Enrollment Office and Nez Perce Tribe Finance Department. If your mailing address or bank account information has changed since the gaming revenue distribution that was made in April 2015, please notify the Tribe as soon as possible to update your information. (Reasons for a change in information would include: you have moved, changed banks, turned 18, been married/divorced). Forms are also available on the Tribe's website at nezperce.org or can
be picked up from the Nez Perce Tribe's Enrollment Office.
Distributions to enrolled tribal
members that are under the age of 18 will be placed in the Trust Mismanagement
Settlement Payment Trust of the Nez Perce Tribe that was created in 2012 to
house the funds distributed from that settlement. The funds will be held there
until the individual reaches the age of 18 and meets certain education
requirements. The Tribe is pleased to be able to distribute these settlement
funds to tribal members and appreciates your help to make sure you receive your
share as quickly as possible.
